Steps to perform NETGEAR WIFI Extender Setup
The following are all the steps one needs to follow to do NETGEAR WIFI Extender Setup:
• The first steps, common in all the devices, is to plugin your NETGEAR WIFI Extender, and wait for the power LED light to light up. In case it does not light up, push the power on/off button.
• This step is to connect your mobile or other smart devices to the extender’s WIFI network. An important thing to keep in mind here, that NETGEAR_EXT is the default WIFI name for Extender’s SSID. And usually, it does not ask for passwords, but if it does, ‘password’ is the default password. Your device might show you the message that the internet is not available, but we suggest you ignore it and keep the WIFI connected.
• The third step in the process is to open the web browser and search for mywifiext.net. Here you will see the New Extender Setup page.
• Now, click on the NEW EXTENDER SETUP button. If the terms and conditions page appears, click the YES or I AGREE option.
• You have to now choose your extender’s admin credentials. And through these credentials, you could access your extender’s setting on the web browser. Here, you cloud leave your default username as admin only, and it would be if the password is not the same as your WIFI’s password.
• For future security purposes, click on the drop-down menu option, select any two security questions of your choice and answer accordingly. These security questions will help you recover your account in the future, in case you forget your Extender’s Admin Credentials.
• Tap the NEXT option. Now the extender page could ask you that if you would like the help of NETGEAR Genie, click YES or Continue. Through this, your extender searches for the local WIFI networks.
• You may now see the radio buttons that you have to select for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WIFI network names (SSID), and in case the Network names does not appear, click on the SEE MORE option.
• Now click on the NEXT button.
• You now need to type your existing network name and then click the NEXT tab.
• You will be asked to put in your SSIDs and password of your choice. But by default, for the 2.4 GHz band, extender adds _2GEXT as a suffix to your existing network name, and for the 5 GHz band, it adds _5GEXT to your existing network name. The default password for each band is the same as your existing network name.
• Those using mesh extenders get the option to select the same WIFI Name and Password for both of their WIFI Router and Extender. You just need to select the option Enable One WIFI Name in your extender supports.
• Tap on NEXT. Now you might need to wait for few minutes as the extender applies your settings. After that, the extender will display your WIFI Network name (SSID) and password for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, bands. Please write them down.
• Open the WIFI settings on the device, that you would like to connect to your extender network, and select the extender’s new network.
• The last step of the process for you is to open again your web browser, go to the bottom of the extender page, select the checkbox and click the CONTINUE button.
